Tea tree essential oil is by far one of the most versatile and popular essential oils in aromatherapy. Not only can it be used in many ways, but it is also one of the most effective essential oils. We use it weekly here in our home : whether it is for skin issues or to prevent lice to land in our home (and in my daughter’s hair!), we just love it! Native to Australia, tea tree essential oil is harvested from melaleuca leaves. It has been appreciated and used for decades for its many therapeutic properties and the various uses that can be made of it are countless. Here at home, it's one of my favorites!

What makes Tea tree essential oil so special? Well, it is naturally antimicrobial and useful for a bunch of problems. In fact, if you have the Essential Oils Pocket Reference book or The Healing Power of Essential Oils book , you might know that tea tree oil is effective against all three types of infectious organisms - bacteria, viruses and fungi - making it an essential oil apart from all others.

As mentioned above, tea tree oil can be used for a number of problems ranging from germ control to skin problems. Whether you plan on taking it on your Summer vacation get-away or use it to fight winter colds, it is very useful and needed on your essential oil shelf. And the best is that you can combine it with other essential oils!

Below, you will find some of the many uses I can make of tea tree oil. Know that I’m ONLY using Young Living essential oils, simply because I know how pure they are and how I should dilute them. If you use another brand, refer to their user guide.

Because it is antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial, tea tree oil is a wonderful germ fighter. It can easily be used to clean the surfaces of your home, purify the air, or even use it as a cleanser on your skin. To use it as a natural anti-germ product, simply add it to hand soap and your homemade cleaners. You can even use it to make your own hand sanitizer or spread it throughout the house to help prevent disease. For my part, I never part with it when I have to clean the joints of my bathtub!

Tea tree oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It is therefore ideal for itchy, irritated or inflamed skin. In fact, it is a common ingredient in natural products formulated to help soothe irritated skin. And to top it all off, it is one of the sweetest essential oils, which means it can be used on just about anyone (don't forget to respect a very strict dilution chart for children!). Combined with lavender essential oil and jojoba, it is an effective soothing ointment that you will use over and over again.

Acne can be caused by a number of reasons, including bacteria and blocked pores. Due to its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, tea tree oil is commonly used as an effective natural remedy for acne. Not only is it beneficial in reducing acne, but it can also help reduce the scars associated with it. It is generally associated with lavender and can be used as a stain treatment or even added to facial cleansers and serums. I love adding a drop to my weekly scrub: goodbye blackheads!

Crushed tea leaves have long been used as a cough remedy by Aborigines. In addition, essential oil is a popular choice for the treatment of colds due to its powerful antiviral properties. It can easily be added to a chest massage with other essential oils that fight the disease or spread throughout the house to help minimize coughing and colds.

Naturally anti-inflammatory, tea tree oil is also considered beneficial against allergies. Not only is it effective when used against seasonal allergies, but it is also an excellent choice against rashes and hives. For seasonal allergies, spread throughout the house or create a personal inhaler. To use in case of hives or rash, simply mix 1 tablespoon jojoba oil with 3-4 drops of Young Living Tea Tree Oil and rub on the affected area.

Tea tree oil is an excellent choice to add to your natural body care products. Due to its powerful antimicrobial properties, it can be an excellent complement to deodorants, toothpastes, shampoos and even facial products (such as my scrub!). It can also help maintain scalp and gum health, making it easier to choose ingredients for your own personal care products.

For decades, tea tree oil has been used to treat wounds. Not only can it help prevent infection, it can also clean and soothe wounds. In fact, thanks to its effective antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, it can be useful for just about any skin problem.

Tea tree oil is also beneficial against warts. Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus and can be transmitted from one person to another. And because of its antiviral and immune properties, tea tree oil is commonly used for many skin infections, including the treatment of warts. If you also have small warts due to sweating, it is also very effective!

It is not surprising that tea tree oil is so widely used against fungal infections and is considered particularly effective because of its antifungal properties. Athlete's foot, ringworm and itching of the groin are all fungal infections. For this reason, tea tree oil can be a useful treatment for ringworm and marginated eczema.

10. LICE

Not only does tea tree oil help support scalp health, it is also considered an effective natural remedy for lice treatment! I would even say that it is quickly becoming one of moms' favorite essential oils!
