4 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU DITCH YOUR JOB

4 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU DITCH YOUR JOB.png

Regular readers of this blog will know that it’s all about ditching your 9-5 in favour of something a little more exciting or interesting. But before you do that, you need to be prepared, and in particular you need to know why you really want to do it. If you are struggling to get to grips with why you are hoping to change jobs, that might be a sign that you should slow down and think more carefully. In particular, you might want to ask yourself the following questions, which are designed to hone in on why you’re not happy and what you could change.

What Energy Level Do You Like?

One common reason that people don’t like their current job is because it doesn’t give them the right energy level for them. Some people like to be up on their feet all day, moving around and never sitting still. For others, that is a nightmare, and they would rather sit at a desk for eight hours instead. Then there are those in the middle. You need to work out where you are on this scale first. Then it might become obvious that you should go and get your physical therapy degree and do that job, or conversely, go and get your computer science degree.

What Do You Dream Of Doing?

It might sound obvious, but you do need to have a good idea of what your ideal job would be, otherwise you are not really going to know what you should go for. It’s wise to know about this long before you actually quit your job, as that way you can start planning and generally getting the ball in motion before you really need to, which is going to make a huge difference to how you approach things.

Are You Ready For Something Exciting?

This might seem strange to ask, but frankly one of the reasons that people don’t tend to switch jobs that readily is because they are not truly ready to do something exciting with their lives. There is a reason that so many of us stick to the 9-5 for so long - it is dependable and predictable. If you are thinking about changing, you are going to have to make sure that you are ready for something exciting. If you are not, then you will become overwhelmed too fast, and ultimately it won’t work out.

Are You Just Avoiding Conflict?

Although it can be tempting to want to run away from conflict when it arises, this is not generally the best way of approaching things, and as such you will want to watch out for this in general. If there is a chance that you are just seeking something new because you want to avoid conflict, then you might not actually need to change jobs at all - you might just need to have it out with wherever the conflict is. You would do better to do that than to run away from it, in the end.
