TRYING A NEW CAREER

TRYING A NEW CAREER.png

The coronavirus and Covid-19 pandemic has seen more and more people change careers that would have usually switched jobs over the past year. Government guidelines have been put in place to slow and minimise the spread of the virus, which has helped individuals and local healthcare systems. However, these same guidelines have left many businesses unable to operate. This has resulted in mass unemployment through the collapse of businesses, essential redundancies and employers offering shorter working hours or less pay in a bid to get by. If you’re in the group of people looking for an alternative means of making money, here are a few suggestions that can help you along the way!

Freelancing

More and more people are opting to freelance right now. This involves taking one of your skill sets and selling your services to another company or individual. Some common freelance roles include web design, graphic design, copywriting, product photography and more. Of course, there are a few steps you need to take to make sure that you can operate on a freelance basis properly.

●      Register as self employed - all self employed individuals must register as self employed with the government before getting started. This will ensure that your local authorities know that you’re working for yourself and it will allow you to file your tax returns properly at the end of each fiscal year.

●      Find an accountant - all self employed individuals can file their taxes themselves. But the vast majority will hire an accountant. This will make it easier to keep records of your earnings and essential outgoings. They also have a good knowledge of the taxation system and can make sure that you take advantage of any deductions and expenses you may be entitled to.

Setting Up Your Own Business

Another option is to set up your own business. Of course, this is going to take a whole lot of hard work and effort. But remember that you are standing on the shoulders of giants. Take inspiration from sites created by successful business people like Haval Dosky. Then, start focusing on a business plan. Decide what you’re going to sell, do some market research and carry out product testing. Once you’re good to go, you can outsource your manufacturing and focus on fun activities such as marketing and advertising campaigns.

Consider an Alternative Employed Position

If you’re looking for a new job because you lost your previous one, you may still want to be employed. If this is the case, you can simply look for alternative work under a different company. Make sure to update your CV and start browsing job boards on job sites. Apply for any positions that seem appropriate. You may then be invited to interview! Prepare for your interview thoroughly and do your utmost to present yourself in the best light possible!

These, of course, are just a few suggestions. There are alternative options out there. Hopefully, some of the advice does come in useful for you though!
