HELPING YOUR INJURED CHILD HEAL

If there’s one thing any mother will tell you, it’s that young children have a particular knack for trying to injure themselves. Who knows where they were trained in this process? We certainly didn’t them that information. Yet it seems that every toddler-age child has a range of techniques they can use to harm themselves, even in a thoroughly child-proofed home or classroom.

From running into things, falling off their bicycles, injuring themselves on playsets, and a range of other issues we would rather not have to imagine, children seem to be predisposed to these kinds of difficulty. We likely recognize this from our own childhood. However, we cannot lament or remain puzzled at this for long, because when a child does, against all odds, injure themselves, direct and careful action is needed.

This is where a caring parent, like you, needs to stay calm and take immediate action to help them heal or to limit the damage they have done themselves. In the following advice, we’ll help you with some pointers that may assist this stressful time. We also hope your child experiences a speedy and complete recovery no matter what has happened to them.

Immediate Assessment

First, it’s important to understand what the problem might be. Do they have cuts or bruises? Can they move their arm, or are they struggling to? Just how might they have landed, and how can you ensure you spot the right place to support? Asking them questions about where it hurts, inspecting them visually, very light touching and even the practical observation skills taught from a first aid course can help you move on to the best possible solution.

Medicine Cabinet

Stocking your medicine cabinet is important. It should be filled with a first aid kit, painkilling treatment such as xylocaine 5 ointment, bandages, child-friendly painkillers, cleaning kits, and cloths. A medicine cabinet should be regularly restocked. It should also be that you now how to apply certain measures such as supporting a harmed arm through careful bandage placement, or how to clean a grazed knee and then prevent it from becoming infected. The more you can approximate these skills via the equipment you use, the better you can care for your child.

Find Extra Care As Needed

Of course, it’s important to note when your own attempts at helping your child may not be as useful as you’d like them to be. In the case of broken bones, burns and other very unfortunate circumstances, your best bet is to call for aid as soon as possible, describe the problem accurately, and then follow the advice of the medical professional who arrives. Simple care can be applied such as applying immediate soothing solutions, helping your child stay in the right position and calming them to the degree that you can. The sooner you find them extra care, the better.

With this advice, we hope you can help your injured child heal to full recovery.
